On Saturday, November 21, 2015, we held a training session on "Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response," attended by 21 home care workers.
We used the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's handbook, "Disaster Preparedness Tokyo." In the opening remarks, our company president said:
"Thank you all for your hard work, and thank you to so many of you for attending. Please recognize that an earthquake could affect you personally and be prepared."
Following these remarks, we considered the question: What would you do if a major earthquake struck Tokyo?
We discussed what to do immediately after a disaster and in the days that follow, actions to avoid, how to locate designated evacuation areas and shelters nearby, and what to do if an earthquake strikes while you are working.
We would like to gather feedback from our home care workers, discuss it internally, and put together and share a set of basic response guidelines.
Did the session help everyone become more aware of disaster preparedness?
